Halloween in Korea

So Korea doesn’t celebrate Halloween?! What the heck? It’s one of those things that I never put any thought into. Somewhere in my subconscious, I just assumed Halloween was a worldwide holiday. Silly, I know. But Halloween is pretty badass, so my American friends and I decided to show the Koreans how its done!

We were the main attraction walking down the street. My friends (Bellatrix and Voldemort from Harry Potter) were wildly popular. We were stopped constantly for pictures. (Which is why there is a random Korean guy in this picture..hehe.)

Now we were in Itaewon, the area right outside of the Army post in Seoul, home to many foreigners. And there were even a few bars hosting Halloween parties, so we didn’t totally stick out like weirdos!

My husband, Andy Samberg, D*ck in a Box. Yes, there were some Koreans who recognized him and laughed! I was surprised.

See, Halloween was celebrated in Itaewon!

The most interesting part of Halloween was explaining it to my older Korean friends.  The wanted to know what we do for “The Halloween Ceremony.” It was an awkward explanation: kids dress up and ask strangers for candy and adults dress up and get drunk…

Bar number 2 was decorated. Check out that spider web!

We even found people who were dressed up!

Overall, it was a fantastic night! Next year I want to go to Hongdae or Kangnam for Hallowen.  I hear that these are some Halloween hot spots!  It was definitely not the usual Halloween experience, but it was an enjoyable nonetheless.
